The local community will finally reap the benefits of our Green Pledge, with the upcoming unveiling of Templeton Place in Hampton Hill. The results of our Poetry Competition on the topic of Wild Flowers will be officially announced on Sat 9th September in Hampton Hill, when the Deputy Mayor will also unveil a planter in Templeton Place, Hampton Hill High Street (between Robson’s Butcher and The Lemon Tree Restaurant); this planter will have an inscription of the winning poem.
How are Dramacube involved?
Earlier this summer, Dramacube ran the poetry competition as part of our green pledge which supports environmental projects in the borough.
Dramacube have been working with the Hampton Hill Improvement Group, a small group of local residents, businesses and ward Councillors, set up to look at inexpensive ways to improve the area’s local environment and support the High Street. It was agreed that planters would help green the area as well as create a safer and more attractive public space. Ensuring native pollinators as far as was possible, it’s hoped that as the planting matures the public space will be more pleasurable and more welcoming as somewhere people will want to spend time. An artist’s impression of the re-imagined area was presented for residents’ comment at a Shop Local event in 2021.
How did it happen and why?
With funding and support from the Council and as well as the planters, a competition was held seeking
artists’ designs to paint and revive the public seating in the area. Having chosen the winning submission, work on refreshing the benches began in June, with a tasteful colour scheme and simple designs reflecting the neighbouring Bushy Park trees.
Our very own Stephen Leslie from Dramacube said, “Our goal is to create and enhance green spaces for our local community and provide a better quality of life for the children who live here.”
Georgia, the Town Centre Manager, commented, “Having worked with the Improvement Group and The Council over the last 2-3 years on this project, we are all very pleased to see it now near completion. Our event on 9th September is an opportunity to bring residents and visitors together, to enjoy this space. We’ll have music, singing and some creative activities for kids.”
The unveiling of Templeton Place in Hampton Hill will kick-off at 11am on Saturday 6th of September 2023. We look forward to seeing you all there!
