Movie Makers Workshops at Walton Film Festival!
WALTON FILM FESTIVAL
This May, Walton on Thames celebrates the 120th Anniversary of film-maker Cecil Hepworth’s adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland in their inaugural Film Festival.
The 10-day festival, hosted by Love Walton, includes a variety of film presentations, speakers, mad-hatter’s tea party….and Dramacube’s Movie Makers workshops!
WHY A FILM FESTIVAL FOR WALTON ON THAMES?
Walton played a part in founding the British film industry. This term our Esher cast of 8-12yrs performed Oliver Jr in Walton at the Cecil Hepworth Playhouse. The Playhouse has a blue plaque because it was originally built as a film studio for Cecil Hepworth. Hepworth was a pioneer film-maker whose ingenuity brought important developments to the production and technology of British films, such as Alice in Wonderland. Hepworth worked as a Director and Producer and was highly successful, for a time, with his ground-breaking films.
This is why Love Walton is creating an inaugural Film Festival for Walton between 20th – 30th May 2023 which will have the core theme of Hepworth and Alice in Wonderland….which will include Movie Makers School Workshops!
MOVIE MAKERS SCHOOL WORKSHOPS
Whether they love being on screen or behind the camera, our highly interactive school workshops provide children with the opportunity to be part of a creative process and enrich their knowledge of Walton’s exciting film-making history.
Children will work with a professional film-maker and creatives, participating in drama games, improvisation exercises and screen make-up as they collaborate to make their own short film.
These Movie Makers Workshops are inspired by pioneering techniques used by producer and director, Cecil Hepworth in the first-ever screen production of the Lewis Carroll classic – Alice in Wonderland. Dramacube’s Movie Makers Workshops are part of Love Walton’s Film Festival 2023 and generously funded by The Charity of Robert Phillips.
Together with Love Walton, we are proud to be offering workshops in Walton Heathside, Ashley CofE Primary, Burhill Primary, Cleves School and Grovelands Primary Schools.
If you are a school or education setting who would like to discuss a Performing Arts Workshop, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
