Kids Theatre Group Receives Rave Reviews in Walton

This week our kids theatre group received rave reviews in Walton on Thames!  At Dramacube we like to provide opportunities for people to experience the magic of musical theatre even if they are not on stage themselves. Kicking off our series of Oliver Jr performances was the debut show at the Cecil Hepworth Playhouse, so we contacted Walton on Thames Girl Guides to see if they would be willing to review our show.  This winning collaboration also helps contribute towards the Girl Guides ‘Media Critic’ badge.

Shining on Stage!

Ella, a local Girl Guide wrote:

This show was fantastic, it had a mixture of funny, crowd-involving moments, as well as some serious
solo ones. Every scene was well presented which was enhanced by brilliant staging. The clever use of
the set meant that small changes could transform the whole atmosphere of the stage.
I particularly enjoyed the character Nancy and how well the actor portrayed her- strong vocals
added in all the right ways. Along with Nancy, the actor who played the Artful Dodger captivated the
audience with their playful nature and great stage presence. The use of a female actor for Oliver was
clever and she was very convincing. I loved her own personal twist she brought to the role.
The use of multi-role by the rest of the cast worked really well.
Overall I think this was a powerful performance by a very professional young cast. I can’t wait to see
what they will do next!

Being Part of the Best Gang!

Molly, a local Ranger, wrote:

From the moment the show started, you could feel the energy and excitement of all the actors. Everyone involved delivered their individual part with enthusiasm and great character. From the grey, torn costumes of the workhouse children to Nancy’s red dress, the outfits were well planned to bring out the full Oliver experience. The audience could hear every word of both the dialogue and all of the songs. Special mention should be given to Isla for her performance as Oliver, Florence as the loveable Nancy and Grace as the energetic and cheeky Artful Dodger. Great performances all round, every actor had worked hard to learn their lines and bring out their individual characterisation. Oliver Jr is a shorter version of the original production, but clever staging, choreography and set design meant that the show flowed smoothly from scene to scene and the audience felt that they had enjoyed a full scale West End production.
