Introducing Katie

A Warm Welcome to Katie Barton

Katie Barton

Katie Barton to head up drama classes in Hampton Hill

A very warm welcome or perhaps we should say a very warm welcome back to Katie Barton who will lead on our new 4-6 years class starting on Saturday 12th September in Hampton Hill.

Whilst this is the first time Katie has run classes at Dramacube, you may recognize her from our production of Ellie and Starlight the Musical which was staged at Hampton Hill Theatre in March 2019 where she played the title role of Ellie.

Whilst Katie is a new addition to the Teaching Team at Dramacube she is no stranger to running classes.  A professional actor, playwright and primary school teacher who trained at The Poor School, London and with Shakespeare’s Globe practitioner Emily Jenkins.

She is passionate about teaching drama through story-telling and introducing young children to classic texts including Shakespeare’s stories using her own unique creative methods to make them accessible and hugely enjoyable.

Katie Barton with the Cast of Ellie & Starlight

Before focusing on a creative career, Katie was the English Lead for a large primary school and wrote and directed several plays for the children.

She also developed a series of after-school storytelling workshops and enjoyed collaborating with The Orange Tree Theatre education department during her training.

As an actor, Katie has worked within radio, animation and theatre.   Recent credits include Mary Bates in Behind Closed Doors (BBC Radio 4), Dora in Fast at the Edinburgh Fringe and Ellie in Ellie and Starlight for Dramacube.

Katie also holds a Masters in Creative Writing from Cambridge and her first play Fast was shortlisted for Best New Play at the Brighton Fringe.  It transferred from the Edinburgh Fringe to the Park Theatre London in 2019.  Katie is currently writing a new play for radio and is delighted to be joining Dramacube’s superb team!

We very much look forward to working with Katie.
